Servers & Storage
Servers and Storage which are the two core components in data centers and enterprise IT infrastructure. In simple terms, servers are responsible for "calculating", while storage is responsible for "storing".
Server is a computer that provides computing power and services, specifically designed to deliver resources or services to other devices, such as file sharing, database processing, and web services.
Major manufacturer: Lenovo ThinkSystem, Huawei FusionServer, Dell, HPE, etc.
A Storage Server is a system specifically designed for storing, managing, and providing data access, focusing on efficiently handling large volumes of data and supporting centralized storage.
Main Types:
- DAS (Direct-Attached Storage): Connected directly to servers, simple but with limited scalability, suitable for small-scale environments.
- NAS (Network-Attached Storage): Provides file-level access over a network, easy to deploy, ideal for file sharing and backup.
- SAN (Storage Area Network): Offers block-level storage with high performance, well-suited for large databases and virtualized environments.
